Hot VS Cold

Hot vs cold? I’ll take hot any day. Specially here in Texas. I like summer A LOT better than winter.

You’re hands freeze along with the rest of your body. You stay home all day, staring out you’re window, the cold trapping you inside. But I mean, the snow is always fun! ….Wait… what snow? There is absolutely no snow in Texas! We’re lucky if we get a couple of flakes on dirt, so there goes that. There’s nothing to do! Texas was made for summer.

A Texas summer is very easy to explain. FUN! There won’t be a day you’re not outside. The city is waiting for you with open hands. The endless number of activities are incredible! Paddle boarding, running on town lake, swimming at Barton spring, you name it! Oh and did I mention NO SCHOOL! Summer in Austin is paradise.

I think that most people that like winter are people who like to stay inside, and that’s definitely not me. Winter is a pain, I wish summer was all year long.

Austin Snow Blizzard 2014

My eyes opened wide. Excitement awoke my body. I knew what today was. I was waiting– the city was waiting; Austin was about to experience something not seen often at all.

Sliding down the hall–rushing down the stairs, my body made its way to the front door. My mind was imagining all sorts of things, I was prepared for disappointment, but hoping for the best. I took I deep breath. My hand tightly grasped the door handle. Opening the door slowly, I was scared what would be on the other side, and to my surprise I could see a couple of flakes on the ground, but that was enough.

School was canceled and I had a day I will never forget.

Kidnapped

The door suddenly slammed itself shut. The the room got pitch black in a matter of seconds. The young girl reached for the light switch but it had disappeared. She cried for help but the silence was louder than he scream. She heard slow, quiet footsteps: she wasn’t alone. The girl rapidly turned around, she saw a dark figure-a face. She opened her mouth to scream but before she made a sound her mouth was covered and-

Her eyes shut.

After a couple of hours she awoke. She tried to make sense of what had just happened, but she couldn’t find an answer. She felt different- she was in a different place. It was tighter, as if the walls were grabbing her, barely giving her room to breath. She pounded on the air-tight walls. She had no sense of where she was until suddenly… she heard a car engine, and that’s when she started to scream. She pounded and screamed as loud as could and panicked more and more.

Her eyes opened wide. She awoke up sitting up with tears in her eyes, realizing it was all a dream.

Down Town

People rushing by busy streets. Time flys by as you see all different types of places. Every type of restaurant you can imagine. And buildings like giants that tower over the city.

All different types of people walking down the street. The girl that can barley walk because of a hand full of shopping bags and 10 inch heels. The man with a small backpack on his pack and a pair of bongos as his best friend. The “business man” with his suit and tie.

This is downtown Austin.

Basketball Tryouts

This week we are having basketball tryouts. At first, I was really just trying out for fun. I didn’t think I would like it since I’ve never played before but it seems like the more I play the more I like it.

During tryouts we do all sorts of things. Today we practiced layups and dribbling the ball up and down the court.

Monday we get to know if we made it in and I’m extremely nervous. I really would love to play basketball on a team because I think it would be a great experience.

Volleyball

Pressure and frustration fill my body. I can feel blood pumping through my veins. The score is 24-23 and Hudson Ben is winning. I turn around, “Back row get ready!” I say. The other server tosses the ball, it’s coming to me.

“I can’t let it drop we’ll loose!” I thought to myself. I could see the ball coming. It dropped perfectly to my hands as I set the ball. “BACK ROW HELP!” I yelled. I could see the ball drop out of the coroner or my eyes. I saw it drop.

We lost. My heart broke in a million pieces. At that moment I was furious, but now I realize I did the best I could and that’s all that matters.

Memories

Last week in eanglish we have talked about our memories for an essay. We wrote down some of our past memories and talked to our classmates to remember more. Thinking about past memories really made me remember things I had compleat lay forgot about, which was interesting. I really liked talking about my memories with
the class.

The Giver

This week we finished with the book “The Giver”. I think this book had a really confusing yet interesting ending. The author leaves a cliff hanger, never explaining what happened to him. Did he die? Was he able to make it into the other communities? What happened to Gabriel? Although she left the book at a point where it was very confusing, I think the mystery in it made it interesting. This book was overall a great and unique story that I would defiantly recommend.

Summer

While the sun glares down,
on a hot summer sidewalk.
When the people walk by,
tanning their golden skin.
About to aboard a summer journey.
Meanwhile, everyone stares at the glorious mid day sky.
Near the lake I stand,
upon my feet I walk,
beyond my eyes I see my reflection,
through the clear crystal water.
